Rabby vs Phantom: which wallet fits a multichain user?
Phantom is the natural choice if Solana is your main chain, and it also handles Bitcoin and a handful of EVM networks. Rabby is the stronger choice for Ethereum and EVM DeFi: it covers far more EVM chains, charges 0.25% instead of 0.85% on swaps and supports many more hardware wallets. Plenty of people use Phantom for Solana and Rabby for EVM.
Rabby and Phantom are rarely direct substitutes. Phantom is the best-known Solana wallet that added other chains. Rabby is an EVM-only wallet built for DeFi on Ethereum and its layer-2s. The question is usually which one to use for your EVM activity. Facts were checked on 25 October 2026.

Chains: the deciding factor
If you hold SOL, Solana tokens or Bitcoin, Rabby cannot help: it is EVM-only. Phantom handles Solana natively, supports Bitcoin (Native SegWit and Taproot), and covers Ethereum, Base, Polygon and a few other EVM networks.
On EVM, the picture flips. Rabby integrates dozens of EVM networks, switches to the right one automatically for each dapp and lets you add any EVM chain manually. Phantom covers only a short list of EVM networks and does not support Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche. In 2026 Phantom also removed two chains, Monad and Sui, giving users notice to move funds or use the same recovery phrase in another wallet. See Rabby supported chains.
Fees
Phantom charges 0.85% on selected same-network swaps. Rabby charges 0.25% and nothing on stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps, wrapping and native-to-liquid-staking swaps (Rabby source code, October 2026). Rabby's own in-app fee comparison cites the same 0.85% figure for Phantom. On a $1,000 swap that is $8.50 in Phantom against $2.50 in Rabby. Cross-chain swaps in both include bridge and network costs that vary by route. Read Rabby swap fees for the full breakdown.
Safety
Both wallets show a preview and warnings before you sign. Rabby's approach is more detailed on EVM: it decodes permits and approvals, simulates balance changes and runs a rule-based security engine whose rules you can inspect. See Rabby transaction simulation.
Openness differs. Rabby's extension code is public under the MIT licence and its audits by SlowMist and Least Authority are in its public repository (most recently August and October 2026). Phantom's app is proprietary; it lists audits by Kudelski Security (2021) and Least Authority (2024) and runs a bug bounty.
Rabby's main incident was the October 2022 Swap contract exploit, which hit users who had approved that contract; keys were not affected. In August 2026 Rabby fixed a signature bug that needed a 10-minute auto-lock setting, with no known exploitation. Phantom was cleared of involvement in the August 2022 Solana wallet drain, which was traced to the Slope wallet (The Block). Both brands are heavily impersonated: Phantom users were hit by fake "update" requests in February 2025, and Rabby has seen fake Firefox add-ons and a fake App Store app. Check any Rabby download with our Rabby extension checker. Rabby never asks for your seed phrase.
Features
- Hardware: Phantom supports Ledger only (Nano X, Stax and Flex by Bluetooth on mobile). Rabby supports Ledger, Trezor and many others; see Rabby hardware wallets.
- Onboarding: Phantom lets you create an account with Google or Apple login. Rabby uses a classic seed phrase, with optional encrypted cloud backup on mobile.
- Trading: both offer Hyperliquid perps. Phantom adds Solana liquid staking; Rabby adds a Gas Account, approvals manager and Safe multisig.
Running Phantom and Rabby side by side
Because Phantom also injects an Ethereum provider, a dapp may open Phantom when you meant Rabby, or the reverse. Most modern dapps show a list of installed wallets so you can pick one. If a site still opens the wrong wallet, set Rabby as the default in its settings or temporarily disable the other wallet extension; see Rabby not showing in a dapp.
Keep the chains straight when you move funds. Rabby uses one 0x address on every EVM chain. Your Solana and Bitcoin addresses in Phantom are completely different formats, and sending EVM tokens to them, or Solana tokens to a 0x address, will fail or lose funds. Our EVM address checker flags non-EVM addresses before you send.
When Phantom dropped Monad and Sui in 2026, users had to move to another wallet that supports those chains. Monad is an EVM chain, so the same recovery phrase imported into an EVM wallet such as Rabby shows the same address; check that the chain is in Rabby's list or add it as a custom network first.
Choose Rabby if… / Choose Phantom if…
Choose Rabby if
- Your activity is on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and other EVM chains.
- You want lower swap fees on EVM.
- You use a hardware wallet other than Ledger.
- You prefer open-source wallet code.
Choose Phantom if
- Solana is your main chain.
- You want Bitcoin and Solana in the same app as some EVM assets.
- You prefer signing up with Google or Apple instead of writing down a seed phrase.
A common setup is Phantom for Solana and Rabby for EVM. If you import the same seed phrase into both, the EVM addresses match.
Frequently asked questions
Can Rabby hold Solana?
No. Rabby supports only Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains. Use a Solana wallet such as Phantom for SOL and Solana tokens.
Is Phantom good for Ethereum?
It works for Ethereum, Base, Polygon and a few other EVM networks, but it does not support Arbitrum, Optimism or Avalanche, and its 0.85% swap fee is higher than Rabby's 0.25%.
Is Phantom open source?
No. Phantom's app is proprietary, although some components are public. Rabby's extension code is open source under the MIT licence.
Can I use the same seed phrase in Phantom and Rabby?
Yes, and your EVM addresses will usually match. Your Solana and Bitcoin balances will not appear in Rabby because it does not support those chains.
Which wallet supports Trezor?
Rabby supports Trezor. Phantom supports only Ledger as of October 2026.
