Rabby Desktop for Mac and Windows: status in 2026
Rabby Desktop, the standalone app for macOS and Windows, stopped working after 31 December 2025, when Rabby shut down its backend and asked users to move to the browser extension. Rabby said a new desktop version is planned, but as of 25 October 2026 we could not confirm a release. Your funds were never stored in the app, so they are safe and reachable with your seed phrase or hardware wallet.
Quick steps
- Find your recovery method. Locate the seed phrase, private key or hardware wallet behind each address you used in Rabby Desktop. You need one of these to continue.
- Install the real extension. Type rabby.io into Chrome, Brave or Edge and install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. Check that the ID is acmacodkjbdgmoleebolmdjonilkdbch.
- Import or connect each wallet. Open Rabby, set a password, then import your seed phrase or private key, or connect your hardware wallet. For Safe multisig, add the Safe address.
- Check balances. Confirm that the same addresses and balances appear. Rabby reads them from the blockchain, so nothing needs to be transferred.
- Review approvals. Open the approvals manager and revoke any approvals you no longer need.
- Remove the old app. Uninstall Rabby Desktop from your Mac or PC once everything works in the extension.
What happened to Rabby Desktop
Rabby Desktop was a separate app for macOS and Windows with its own built-in browser for dapps, aimed at people who wanted to keep crypto activity out of their everyday browser. It shared most features with the extension, including swaps, the bridge, Gas Account, approvals and hardware wallets.
On 12 December 2025 Rabby announced that the Rabby Desktop backend API would be discontinued on 31 December 2025, that the current desktop app would no longer function after that date, that user assets remained safe and unaffected, and that users should migrate to the Rabby extension. It added that a new version of Rabby Desktop was planned for future release, without a date (Rabby on X, 12 December 2025, as reported by KuCoin News).

Some review and directory sites still list Rabby Desktop for macOS and Windows, which is likely out of date. If a new desktop app is released, rabby.io will be the place to find it; check there directly, typed by hand, rather than trusting a search result.

Are my funds safe?
Yes, as long as you have your recovery method. Rabby Desktop, like every self-custody wallet, never held your crypto; your tokens live on the blockchain at your addresses. The app only stored your encrypted keys and made it easy to sign. You can reach the same addresses from the extension or the mobile app with:
- your seed phrase, if you created or imported the wallet with one;
- the private key, if you imported a single address;
- your hardware wallet, if you used Ledger, Trezor, Keystone or another device, since the keys are on the device;
- the Safe address and owner keys, for multisig accounts.
If you never wrote down a seed phrase and the desktop app no longer opens, see recovery options. Without a seed phrase, private key or hardware wallet, nobody, including Rabby, can restore access.
Moving from Rabby Desktop to the extension
Follow the steps below. They take a few minutes per wallet. Afterwards, read Rabby browser extension for tips on running Rabby alongside other wallets.
Getting the desktop app's benefit in a browser
The main appeal of Rabby Desktop was isolation: a dedicated window for crypto, away from everyday browsing. You can get most of that with the extension by creating a separate browser profile (or a separate Chromium browser) used only for crypto, with Rabby as the only extension. Add bookmarks for the dapps you use and do not browse anything else in that profile.
Beware of fake Rabby Desktop downloads
Because people still search for "Rabby desktop download", scammers publish fake installers and pages with titles such as "Rabby Wallet Desktop" on blog platforms and free hosts. In 2026, malicious Firefox add-ons also used names like "Rabbit For Desktop" (The Hacker News, August 2026). An installer that asks for your seed phrase, or a page that is not rabby.io, should be treated as malware. Rabby never asks for your seed phrase on a website, and support never DMs you first. If you specifically want a desktop wallet rather than an extension, Frame is an open-source, system-level desktop wallet aimed at hardware-wallet users. See Rabby vs Frame and Rabby alternatives.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a Rabby Wallet app for Windows or Mac?
Not one that works as of October 2026. The original Rabby Desktop stopped working after 31 December 2025. Rabby has said a new version is planned. Use the browser extension meanwhile.
Did I lose my crypto when Rabby Desktop shut down?
No. Your crypto is on the blockchain, not in the app. Import your seed phrase or private key, or connect your hardware wallet, in the Rabby extension or mobile app to access it.
Is there a Rabby Desktop for Linux?
We found no official Linux version of Rabby Desktop. On Linux, use the Rabby extension in a Chromium-based browser.
Where will a new Rabby Desktop be announced?
On Rabby's official website rabby.io and its official social accounts. Type the address yourself; do not trust download links in search results or messages.
